The notations in the margin are not commentary, they
are rather coded "mappings" as to word frequency, positioning etc.
They serve to 'lock in' the exact text, 'jot and tittle'. These were
originally accomplished by the Sopherim under the direction of
Nehemia and Ezra at the time of the return from Babylon to
Jerusalem.
